PRESS RELEASE 6.25.2024
SAFETY MEASURES DURING FLOOD CLEANUP
As the attention in northwest Iowa turns from immediate flood danger to cleanup, safety remains critical and a top concern of local health professionals at Hawarden Regional Healthcare.
Hawarden Regional Healthcare’s Emergency Room remains open 24/7 for immediate care. Hawarden clinic for general care; urgent care.
There is an increased risk for carbon monoxide poisoning when using power saws, generators and other fuel-burning tools and equipment in enclosed spaces.
Carbon Monoxide (CO) is a poisonous, colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas. CO is harmful when breathed because it displaces oxygen in the blood and deprives the brain, heart, and other vital organs of oxygen.
Exposure over time might lead to symptoms that can be mistaken for the flu without the fever.
Some symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning can include:
🔵 Headache
🔵 Weakness/fatigue
🔵 Dizziness
🔵 Nausea or vomiting
🔵 Shortness of breath
If you experience symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, get to fresh air immediately and seek medical attention.
“Our hearts and prayers are with all those who are impacted by the powerful floods in our area,” said Jayson Pullman. “We ask individuals and families to take special care during cleanup efforts to help ensure that everyone stays safe throughout this very difficult time.”
